Many smaller cities have one or more minor league baseball teams. These games are great fun to go to, with the atmosphere of a professional game for cheap prices but also a community feel. Many people love these teams, for me it is the Vermont Lake Monsters. But, as the MLB is cutting funding from minor league teams, many smaller single A teams are going to get cut, such as the Lake Monsters which are expected to go along with their whole division after the 2020 season. The MLB argues that it does not generate enough revenue, which I do not think is true for most cases. Games in Vermont are almost always sold out or at least close to being sold out because we have no other games to go to.
I think that cutting these smaller single A and double A teams is not only bad for the community, but it is also bad for developing players and creating a good scouting system. Many great players have been drafted very low, and have made it from the single A teams all the way to the MLB. If the MLB decides to remove those teams, many people that may have been great players would never be given the chance and would never make it to the MLB. I hope that the MLB decides to keep the teams, not only for creating good players, but also to keep a community together all over the country.
