During a baseball game, each team gets an opportunity to bat and try to get as many hits as they can to drive in some runs. The pitcher pitching to them needs to make it as difficult as possible, by throwing different types of pitches with different movement. But, with tons of camera crew on the field, there are bound to be people that take advantage of them and look at pitches being called. In 2017, The Houston Astros won the World Series, and a former Astros pitcher named Mike Feirs came out after being released and warned his new teammates about playing at Minute Maid Field. After an incredibly successful 2017 season, Feirs stated that their success wasn’t all skill. When playing at home, the Astros had a camera in center field with a screen in the dugout showing the players which pitch was about to come. They would then bang a bat on a trash can to relay the information.
If the batter has the advantage of knowing which pitch is about to come, it makes it much harder for the pitcher to throw something that they can’t hit. If a player in the MLB knows which pitch is about to come, it makes it very easy for them to hit. While at home, some of their best players had outstanding batting averages, and when they travelled their batting average is terrible. Star second baseman Jose Altuve batted a .472 while playing at home, and a terrible .143 while playing away. Furthermore, shortstop Carlos Correa batted .371 at home, and .211 while away. In 2019, the MLB has started an investigation on this, and if it is true, there could be bad consequences, but they are unknown.
