A Shorter Game

In 2018, the MLB announced that they could be adding a new rule to the game. Baseball games take a long time, often lasting over 4 hours long. But, fans are losing interest and ratings are going down because it takes so long, and many think it is boring. So, the MLB introduced the idea of a pitch clock. The pitch clock would limit the amount of time the pitcher has in between each pitch, to only 20 seconds. In 2019, the average time in between pitches was about 25 seconds, with some pitchers taking much longer and others much shorter.

In my opinion, I don’t think that this should be added as a rule. Time in between pitches can throw off a batter, taking maybe only 15 seconds one time and 25 the next. The batter could be ready to go, and he can stand there in the batters box for a long time. That may not seem like a big deal, but when you’re in a big game and you need to come up clutch with a hit and you start to get in your head while the pitcher is taking a very long time, it can make the difference between a base hit and a strikeout.
