Are Umpires Old School?

Ever since the sport originated, baseball has been umpired by real, professional people who have to go through years of training to get their license, and then make it all the way to the big leagues if they’re lucky. But, as the game introduced instant replays and reviews which can be overturned, fans and coaches are getting upset over either missed calls or calls that were not overturned which should of been. A new idea was proposed, an electronic umpire that can not get any calls wrong. The new technology was implemented in some fall league stadiums, which they performed poorly. But, commissioner Rob Manfred is still completely bought into the idea, and he said in 2019 that in the upcoming season it will be introduced into some minor league ballparks so developers can continue to perfect the device. But, it received criticism because it was performing quite poorly when used in the fall leagues, missing pitches that were obviously strikes and calling strikes on pitches that were balls.

Many people are opposed to this idea, and I am one of those people. I think that missed calls and umpire error is part of the game, and it was not a problem until the new technology was introduced and people started thinking that every single call had to be correct. Just like in any sport, the referees or umpires miss calls. It’s just part of the game.
